Abyss is a busy guy (I think it’s a guy, apologies if I’m wrong)

I really like the patterns used. It really give this crystalline meets photoshop layers quality about it. That poster about the lost cat nearby, I’m sure its incidental.

This reminds me of Von Dutch somewhat.

Since taking photo of the street art/graffiti around this town for the last couple of years, Abyss is a little bit of fresh air from the usual, complex, freestyle name tags around the place.

Just picked this up from Midian Underground (FB) yesterday.

He’s got a few pieces there made from (hopefully) discarded traffic signs. This was one of the best ones in my opinion. Check them out at MU.

Just picked this up from the post office today before it closed for xmas.

Originally, I thought this one was sold out and it surprised me when they were not. And I should say that this picture in particular is an inspiration for something I have been working on.

Beginnings Anthology

I regularly hang out with the fine folks of the ACT Comic Meet (twitter). For the last month or so, they have been working on the Beginnings Anthology. It is a collection of their work bound together in a hundred colour pages.

They have been sourcing funds through IndieGoGo. They recently achieved their initial funding goal, but that does not mean that you miss out on pre-ordering a copy for yourself and/or gaining an additional perk with enough support.

These people have heaps of talent and I’m waiting out to see what they have in store for us. There site is here The books won’t be released until March 2012. So I guess, I’ve got to be patient.

Stencil Workshop Fun

I’m a little distracted at the moment. I am perched waiting for a call from work. The reason: they need to me to run some backup for a database that is being moved between servers.

Today, I went to a stencil art workshop run by local artist E.L.K. So we cut up sheets of acetate over printouts to learn and play with X-Acto knives and spray paint. Good times were had by all. So the first one I made was the Che tutorial and the other was a daruma I knocked together. ELK was also nice enough to give me his finished version of Che as well.

I look forward to the next workshop, though right now, with all of the chaos at the end of the year, I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to make it. I guess in the meantime I will go dumpster diving for some acetate sheets.

Okay so I’ve been busy running around with Elmo for nearly a week, so posts were few and far between. Below are the photos I took during my time at the zine fair. I think I got most of the day and the tables there.
