March – Balloon Spectacular

With the weather getting ever-so-slightly colder, balloon enthusiasts come out around the lakeside to attempt at a launch of balloons, some of a particular shape or size. All week, people rock up in the pre-dawn on the lawns in front of the National Library to see the balloons inflate, and if the conditions are right, they launch. As the silken giants rise and suspended against anchored baskets, people crowd around, phones in hand, or kids held close in flash of gas torches. Each seeking a moment in the early blue hour. Eventually, with enough hot air inside, the balloons are unmoored and ascend over the treetops, carried by the faint currents of the morning light.

I went down Monday morning where there was no launch and then with friends on Saturday morning with a guaranteed launch. But March has yet to become as cold as previous years
