Playlist

With Magpie practically finished, I’m waiting on the editors to comb through my work and reduce me to tears. It’s cheaper than hiring a dominatrix. So in the interim, here’s some music I’ve been listening to.

Porcupine Tree – The Incident

I normally enjoy Porcupine Tree’s albums. They’re all universally good. Good guitar and drums. Excellent drums. And they don’t suffer from being too mainstream, not a lot of people talk about them and they’re not driven into the dirt with radio-play, or hipsters wearing their shirts. However, this album being the latest release, leaves me wanting more. I thought they might go with something darker, and some tracks pull this off and others just feel tacked on. This goes with the extra EP they included. I don’t mind little bonuses like that, but Porcupine Tree albums are normally very well rounded and contained. I guess I’ll go back to Deadwing, or Stupid Dream.

Six Organs of Admittance – Shelter From the Ash

After writing a story set as a weird western, I’ll admit I listened a lot to this album. It’s a fine mix between acoustic and psychedelic electric guitar, lonely desert settings and howling. The album is a little short, but I happily play it over and over and over again.

Ladytron – Velocifero

Of the albums of Ladytron, their albums get better everytime. They’re a fine electro-quartet. This is their most enjoyable album, a lot of great sound and variety. No more banal tracks about being seventeen.

Spindrift – The Legend of God’s Gun

This was a fake soundtrack to a movie that got made after the album hit the shelves. It was another of the albums I listened to while I wrote Magpie. Has some pretty neat tracks on there, particularly the end of the album. Same goes for their other album – Songs from an Ancient Age.

Venetian Snares – Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms

I ordered some more Venetian Snares releases a couple of weeks back and this one I really enjoy. Particularly “Pwntendo”. It’s just 8-bit madness.

Good night.
