Okay, so the road trip has started off a bit crazy. Josh and I travelled through Snæfellsnes and the Vestfirðir areas. So far we have had to face rained-out gravel roads with a pockmarked lunar surface, driving through a highway that was under construction, picking up hitchhikers with destinations we couldn’t find on the map. There’s also a lot of narrow mountain passes with wet roads, hairpin turns and no guardrails. So it really is “strap yourself in” kind of country. The locals seem to know it well enough, as they hammer along gravel roads like nihilists drunk on ennui.
Ísafjörður is nice, but the weather was really windy, nearly bowled me over on a couple of occasions. And right now, as of typing this, I’ll be headed to Hólmavík for Strandagaldur, the Icelandic Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft.
