July – Other Worlds

So I took a couple of days off to be in Sydney for this year’s Other Worlds Zine Fair. Now in their twelfth year, the tables are still packed and the crowds are still coming. This year the fair was installed in the Peter Forsyth Auditorium. Almost every year it’s been in the Marrickville Town Hall, but it’s currently undergoing renovations or upkeep. I’ve written on it a couple of times before. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been tabling on behalf of the Canberra Zine Emporium, wherein I round up my own zines, and the zines of other creators in the collective, haul them to Sydney, and then artfully arrange them on a table for people to buy.

One tip about tabling at a zine fair is sharing a table with another creator, or if you have a full table, bringing along a hapless rube trusted friend to take turns watching the table and completing sales, while the other looks around for thing to pick up from other zinesters. As usual for Other Worlds, it’s a pretty chill day, slow to start, but seems to accelerate towards the end.

The other thing about having someone mind the table is that I can get around and take photos. Generally, the day worked pretty well, sold a few things and caught up with a few of the other regulars on the zine circuit.
